Christ-centered, Gospel driven ministry
The Gospel is the glorious good news that the long promised King has come to save His people from the ravages of sin. At the center of this good news stands Jesus Christ our Lord. He lived a perfect life of obedience and died a perfect atoning death that fully satisfied the holy requirements of His Father. Our hope is in Him alone for salvation plus nothing!
"And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.'" - God the Father, Matthew 3:17
A Kingdom Theology
As our name boldly proclaims, Christ is the King. He is the head of the Church and His Gospel informs everything we do. As we are transformed by the Gospel of the kingdom and power of the Holy Spirit, church programs and activities can then be designed and implemented. Who we are determines what we do. We strive to exalt the Cross of Jesus Christ and extend His Kingdom to the entire world.
"For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" - Saint Paul, I Corinthians 2:2
A Scriptural Faith
Christ the King strives to be a church that looks to the Scriptures as its final authority. We affirm the inerrancy and infallibility of Holy Scripture and make it our rule for both faith and practice.
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away." - Jesus Christ, Matthew 24:35
A Sacramental Faith
We have a high view of the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism delivered to the church by our Savior. As "enlightened moderns" it is often difficult to think of God using the simple water of Baptism or the common elements of bread and wine in Communion to accomplish His purposes, but He does precisely that. We long to see, know and experience Jesus Christ in both His Word and Sacraments with an expectant, vibrant, robust and holy faith.
"I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you...For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink." - Jesus Christ, John 6:53, 55
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins." - Saint Peter, Acts 2: 38
An Historical Faith
Christianity is a faith rooted in and worked out through history; therefore we humbly seek the counsel and wisdom of the church "fathers" especially as they are codified in the Creeds and Confessions of the historical church. The Apostles' Creed, Nicene Creed, and Westminster Standards along with other rich and Christ-centered documents inform our understanding and practice.
"...Brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle." - Saint Paul, 2 Thessalonians 2:15
Christian Nurture, Education and Evangelism
The church is a place to study Holy Scripture, theology and doctrine. In addition we must learn "to be" the person God intended. Therefore, Christ the King places a high value on "making disciples" of those the Holy Spirit brings into our midst, both believers and seekers. For the believers we extend the opportunity to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord. To the seeker we extend Christ's appeal, "Repent and believe the gospel" and in so doing, they too can begin the exciting process of growth and outreach to others.
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I commanded you." - Jesus Christ to His disciples, Matthew 28:19, 20
Majestic and Reverential Worship
Our desire in worship is to include the whole body of Christ both young and old alike. Christ the King uses hymn texts and music spanning the centuries and globe. However, we also incorporate new music that is excellent in quality and substance. We strive to build upon rather that supplant traditional hymnody.
Our worship employs both historic and biblical liturgy, placing a high value in Scripturally sound practices such as corporate confession of sins, affirmations of faith, reading of Scripture, prayer, preaching of the Word, along with a high view of the Sacraments. Our worship reflects the needs of the whole community of Christ and the whole person, touching heart, mind, emotions and physical senses.
"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." - Jesus Christ, John 4:21
Missions and Church Planting
Christ the King strives to extend the Kingdom of our Lord beginning in El Paso, Juarez, and then to the "uttermost parts of the world", prayerfully and aggressively giving our resources and personally working in the harvest to accomplish the Great Commission. We do this by supporting and fielding missionaries through Mission to the World, Mission to North America, and by being an integral member of the Southwest Church Planting Network, to name only a few. Remember, God loves to save sinners...after all, He saved us!
"I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." - Saint Paul, I Corinthians 3:6
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." - Jesus Christ to Nicodemus, John 3:16
